Blockchain technology as applied to agriculture product supply chains offers promises of a new and disruptive form of algorithmic economic trust, even referred to as a “trust machine.” Can blockchain technology usher in a transformation to a new transparent “sharing” organic food supply economy? In this presentation we will explore through the comparative examination of three case studies of lamb supply chains, how blockchain is and is not living up to its many promises of improved transactional efficiency, transparency and, most importantly building trust in food products with multiple attributes such as certified organic.
